GYTON Grantley will farewell his character Carl Williams with a bit of Thai food and some wine tonight.
The actor, who first saw the final Underbelly episode last Friday, plans to watch the Channel Nine screening with a few friends at his Bondi home in Sydney."I've got mixed emotions [about it finishing]," Williams said of the hugely popular Underbelly."Even though we did film it a while ago, it basically became like my partner. It's like a break-up in a way."Actor Les Hill, who stars in the series as Jason Moran, announced plans for another Underbelly series at the Logies in Melbourne on Sunday.Grantley said at this stage it looked like it would be a prequel, dating back about 10 years before the current series, but he was not sure whether there would be a storyline that involved Carl."No one really knows yet," he said.Grantley was remaining tight-lipped about tonight's episode when he spoke to The Word yesterday, but he did reveal the worst-kept secret in television that Carl Williams gets caught. The newly A-listed actor spent time meeting film and television executives in Los Angeles last month, but will remain in Australia for now."At the moment I'm going to stay in Australia and ride the wave Underbelly has made for me," he said.Grantley, who cut a slender figure on the dance floor at the Logies after-party earlier this week, is hoping that next year, the show will pick up a few Logies of its own. "I'm absolutely proud of my work as Carl but I've got to credit the writers and crew as well," Grantley said. "It takes a whole team to make it work."Grantley has a starring role in the Australian romantic comedy All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane, which will have a limited released in Sydney next week.
